Tumor Board
Tumor Board is held weekly at both ARMC and RCRMC. It is a great learning experience and everyone is encouraged to participate! Sometimes, there is even food!
RCRMC: Tumor Board is every Tuesday 12:30 to 13:30 in the large conference room behind the Medical Education Department on the 1st Floor.
It is Dr. Gaddis's habit to attend Tumor Board weekly. He is always interested in presenting a case and loves it if one of his residents presents! Approximately six cases are presented each week; most are breast, lung, colon cancers, etc.
How to get a case onto the schedule: When you find a case that is interesting and Dr. Gaddis wants it presented, then fill out the Tumor Board Summary sheet which can be found in the Women's Health clinic. This sheet summarizes the case for all participants at the conference. It should contain all the pertinent data. Make a copy for yourself and then give a copy to Silvia in the Medical Records Dept. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS THE THURSDAY PRIOR TO TUMOR BOARD.
How to present a case at Tumor Board: When your case is called, then go up to the front and present your case. Dr. Gaddis may jump in to save you if it heats up! The General Surgeon governing over the Board will then turn the floor over to the Radiologist, Pathologist, Oncologist, etc in attendance to offer their recommendations. Remember to take notes!
ARMC: Tumor Board is every Thursday 12:00 to 13:00 in the Pathology Department Conference room on the Lower Level.
Drs. Alquisi (Rad-Onc), Howard (Med-Onc), Siefert (Pathologist), and a representative Radiologist, as well as the infusion clinic staff, general surgery residents, attendings, and students are usually present. (There are rarely members of our department present. Drs. Monk and Burger are not at ARMC on Thursdays, so they are usually not present.)
How to get a case onto the schedule: When you find a case that is interesting and you want to present, call the Tumor Manager, Gloria or Julie, at ARMC (extention x06204) to have the case added to the next week's agenda. Then dictate the case summary using the work type #23.
How to present a case at Tumor Board: When your case is called, then you can present the case from your Dictated Summary. This group is a little more informal than at RCRMC! But, remember to take notes on their recommendations!
